CHAPTER 31~

"Me shadi kar rhi hu"

"I'm getting married that too tomorrow evening"

Kanak shouted and left from there.

Surendra stood there ,still and silent, his shrinking at her words. His eyes were red with anger, anger that overpowered him , he took the vase on the table and throw it on the floor, shattering it.

He couldn’t breathe. The world blurred, and all he could hear was the pounding of his own heart. Anger, hurt, disbelief — they all collided at once. Without thinking, he grabbed his bike keys and stormed out of the house.

The engine roared to life, matching the storm inside him. As he tore down the empty road, the wind hit his face like slaps of reality. Every turn, every acceleration was a question — Why didn’t she tell me? Why him? Why not me?

The streetlights blurred into streaks of gold and white. He didn’t care about the speed, the danger, or the world around him. The only thing that mattered was the ache in his chest — the kind that no words or apologies could soothe.

Flashes of their memories flooded his mind — Kanak laughing in the rain, her voice echoing through the old lanes.

The speedometer climbed higher. The wind roared louder. He wasn’t running away — he was trying to outrun the pain. But no matter how fast he went, her name kept echoing in his mind.

The roar of Surendra’s bike faded as he pulled up outside his house, the tires screeching against the gravel. His hands trembled as he turned off the ignition — not from fear, but from the storm brewing inside him. His heart was still racing faster than the engine had moments ago.

As he stepped inside, his mother’s voice called out gently from the kitchen,

“Surendra beta, khana kha le… tu theek hai na?”

But he didn’t answer. He couldn’t. The lump in his throat was too heavy to swallow, and the pain in his chest too deep to speak. Without looking at her, he walked straight past the living room and into his bedroom, slamming the door behind him.

For a few seconds, there was silence. Then — chaos.

The crash of glass. The thud of books hitting the wall. The sharp sound of a photo frame shattering on the floor — the one with him and Kanak smiling under the rain.Surendra’s breathing grew ragged. Rage and heartbreak mixed until they became one unbearable force.

He punched the wall — once, twice — until his knuckles ached.

“How could she do this…?” he whispered, his voice breaking.

Hearing the commotion, his elder brother, Madhvesh, rushed in.

“Surendra! What’s wrong with you?” he shouted, grabbing Surendra’s arm to stop him from throwing another object.

Surendra turned to him, eyes bloodshot and full of pain. “Don’t touch me, Madhvesh bhaiya !” he snapped, but his voice cracked midway. “You won’t understand.”

Madhvesh didn’t back away. “Then make me understand,” he said softly, his tone shifting from anger to concern. “What happened?”

For a moment, Surendra said nothing. The only sound was his heavy breathing, the faint hum of the ceiling fan, and the glass crunching under his feet. Finally, he looked at his brother — broken, vulnerable.

“She’s getting married,” he said hoarsely. “Kanak’s getting married… and not to me.”

Madhvesh’s expression softened instantly. He didn’t say anything — just walked up and put a hand on Surendra’s shoulder. The older brother’s tough facade finally cracked; his eyes glistened.

The room around them was wrecked — like his heart — but in that small moment, the silence between the two brothers spoke more than words ever could.

"Bha.bhaii vo sh..shadi k..kar r..a..hi hai, kisi or se mu..mujhse nhi, bhai aa..ap uss..se b..aat k..aro na usse k..aho na sh..adi na kare, bh.aii me.ri ja...aan nikal rahi ha.i "

His voice trembling with th thoughts of her getting married to someone else.

"Surendra, you can't force her, it's her life and her decision, of she wants to get married no one can stop her", madhvesh tried to make him understand.

“I know it hurts, Suren… but some things are beyond what we can hold onto. Maybe Kanak’s path was never meant to stay beside ours.” Surendra clenched his fists, fighting back the ache in his chest. “How can you say that so easily, Madhvesh bhaiya? You wouldn’t understand what it feels like to lose someone before you even had them.” Madhvesh sighed, placing a hand on his shoulder. “You’re right, I may not feel what you feel, but I do know this — life doesn’t end because someone walks away. You taught me how to stay strong, remember? Now it’s your turn to stand up again.” Surendra looked at him, eyes glistening, anger slowly giving way to pain, then to quiet acceptance. Madhvesh continued, “Sometimes, love isn’t about having someone. It’s about wishing them well and finding peace for yourself. Kanak’s happiness doesn’t erase what she meant to you.” Surendra finally exhaled deeply, his shoulders relaxing. For the first time that evening, he managed a faint smile.

Madhvesh was very upset after knowing the heartbreak of his brother , he consoled him and hugged him.

But it was the silence of something very big which was coming towards their family.

Next evening, Sapna, prachi and tej had decided not to go to wedding venue and try to find something from which they can stop the wedding.

On other side, Surendra was in his office looking outside from the glass. Just then garv , yash and Naman enter the cabin.

"Surendra, what the hell are you in the mood of doing?", garv shouted on him.

Silence.

" Surendra whatever we have Heard , is it true ?", Naman questioned.

Silence.

"Are you really going to do that?", yash asked.

Silence.

"We all are questioning you , and you are standing quietly?", garv shouted.

"What do you all want from me?", Surendra asked turning towards them.

"Answers, answers to our every fucking question", Naman said his voice shows the anger.

"Yes, whatever you have heard is true, I'm going to do it", Surendra said his voice calm.

" Kanak koi aesi vesi ladki nhi hai, tu uske saath kuch bhi karega or mein tujhe karne dunga?, bilkul bhi nhi", garv grabbed the collar of Surendra's shirt.

Yash came forward and left garv's hand from his collar.

" Garv, you leave from here, I will talk to Surendra", yash said, but both of them was looking at each other with intense gaze, yash looked at Naman and asked him to take garv outside.

Naman and garv left from there.

" Yash, I don't want to talk to anyone , I have decided and I'm going to do that", Surendra said.

" Don't do it, it will only create more problems ", yash asked him politely.

" I'm doing to do it", Surendra said with a chuckle and a smirk on his face.

" Usse paane ke liye kiss hatt tak jaaega tu", yash asked him his voice rising.

" If I can't get her then no one else will get her"

Yash looked at the madness his voice was showing, it was clear that today Surendra Rathod was not going to back off.

" Apna sab kuch haar jaaega uske piche", yash again try to stop him.

" Sab kuch haar jaunga, lekin usse nhi haar sakta"

With the anger , yash left from there, he understood that there was only one person who would make Surendra understood and that was

Kanak.

Late at evening, Kanak sat in the back seat of the car, dressed in a beautiful red lehenga, her bangles softly chiming with every movement. The scent of roses from her bouquet filled the air.

The car sped along the empty road. The sun was setting, painting the sky in shades of orange and gold. Kanak smiled faintly as she looked out the window — until she noticed a black SUV appear in the side mirror. Then another. Then two more.

Her heart skipped a beat.

“Ramesh… those cars,” she said nervously. “They’ve been behind us for a while.”

The driver said nothing, eyes fixed on the road.

Within seconds, the black cars spread out — one overtaking from the right, another closing in from the left, the third blocking the front. The fourth came up behind them, trapping Kanak’s car in a perfect circle.

“Ramesh, take another route!” she cried. “Quickly! Go through the side road!”

But Ramesh didn’t turn the wheel. He just stared straight ahead, expression cold.

“Ramesh! Didn’t you hear me?” Kanak shouted, panic rising in her voice.

That’s when he looked at her through the rear-view mirror — and she saw the truth in his eyes.

No fear. No loyalty. Only obedience.

“I’m sorry, madam,” he said flatly. " You are not that driver, bhavesh told me, who are you?", kanak asked being panicking. “I follow only Surendra sir’s orders.”

Kanak’s breath caught in her throat. “You… you’re with him?”

Before she could react, the cars around them stopped abruptly. Dust swirled. Engines rumbled. The road fell silent, except for her pounding heartbeat.

She looked around with the anxiety and nervousness.

The door of the black SUV in front opened — and Surendra stepped out. Dressed in black, his presence was as chilling as the evening wind. He walked slowly toward her car, each step deliberate, a cruel smirk on his face.

Kanak fumbled for her phone, but the driver reached back and snatched it from her trembling hands.

The car door jerked open.

“Kanak,” Surendra said, his voice low but venomous. “You really thought you could run from me? From us?”

“Let me go, Surendra!” she shouted, pushing his hand away. But his grip tightened, cold and unrelenting.

He yanked her out of the car, her dupatta slipping to the ground. She stumbled, trying to break free, but his men surrounded her. The road echoed with the thud of car doors closing and the whisper of danger closing in.

"Surendra, leave me, I said leave meee, I want to reach at the wedding venue ", kanak pleased him but it only made him angry.

" Ofcourse jaana, I know today is your wedding, and who told you it will not take place, you will get married, today itself and right here but only change is that you will get married to me, I will marry you", Surendra said with a chuckle.

" No way, I'm not going to marry you", kanak shouted.

" You will jaana", Surendra said.

Kanak started pulling her hands from his grip but it was not so easy, she gathered her all strength and pushed him, and ran from there.

Her heels clattered on the rough road, the wind whipping her hair, the heavy lehenga pulling against her legs. But she didn’t stop. She didn’t look back. Every breath burned in her chest, every step screamed survival.

“Kanak!” Surendra’s voice roared behind her, sharp and furious.

The guards immediately moved forward, ready to chase — but Surendra raised his hand sharply.

“No one moves.”

His tone was ice. His eyes — burning with something far more dangerous than anger.

“I’ll get her myself.”

He started walking at first — slow, measured steps that echoed against the silent road. Then faster. His stride lengthened, the sound of his boots growing louder, closer. He wasn’t running — he didn’t need to. His confidence was terrifying. He knew she had nowhere to go.

Kanak’s lungs ached, her feet scraped against gravel, but she kept running. The road twisted and stretched into an open expanse — a vast barren ground bathed in the faint silver of moonlight. No houses. No trees. Just emptiness.

She stopped at the edge, her chest heaving, eyes darting in every direction. Nothing but the cold wind and her own echoing breath.

Behind her, she could hear Surendra’s footsteps closing in — steady, unhurried, echoing like a death march.

Kanak turned slowly, strands of hair sticking to her face. Her body trembled, but her spirit did not.

Surendra stood a few feet away now, the fading light catching the cruel curve of his smile.

“There’s no road left, Kanak,” he said softly, almost like a whisper. “Just you… and me.”

Kanak clenched her fists, her voice shaking but fierce.

“Then I’ll make one.”

The wind howled across the open ground, carrying the tension between them like fire waiting to ignite.

Kanak with all strength looked at him," I will jump from here, don't you dare to come close".

" Fine, jump then", Surendra said .

" I'm not joking", kanak challenging him.

" Yes I know, jump" Surendra said calmly.

Kanak looked at the hill , the density it hold amd took a step forward but before she could do anything like that one hand hold her from behind.

Surendra held her arms tightly and dragged her to the center of the area.

" Whatever you want to do , do it once we get married".

" I will never marry you", kanak shouted fiercely.

As she once again tried to run.

She ran.

Her bare feet kicked up dust as she sprinted across the uneven terrain, her lehenga snagging against thorns and stones. The silence of the night was shattered by the sudden roar of engines behind her.

Surendra’s voice echoed faintly, dark and commanding:

“Don’t touch her. Just close in.”

Kanak looked back — and her heart dropped.

The black SUVs and jeeps that had followed her earlier were now moving across the ground like predators. Their headlights cut through the darkness, beams crossing and tangling like a web of light. She turned left — one car screeched into her path. She darted right — another blocked her way.

Within moments, she was surrounded again.

The engines revved low and menacing, dust swirling around her like a storm. The circle of vehicles tightened, headlights glaring straight into her eyes. It was blinding, suffocating — a cage made not of walls, but of power and fear.

Kanak spun around, searching for a gap — any gap. The cars kept moving, inch by inch, forming a perfect ring around her. Their wheels crushed the earth like thunder, each movement deliberate, trapping her a little more.

“Stop!” she screamed, voice echoing across the ground. “Let me go!”

But the only answer was the deep, rhythmic growl of engines — a mechanical heartbeat of control.

Through the haze of dust, she saw him — Surendra, standing outside his car, watching her like a hunter studying his cornered prey. His coat flapped in the wind, his face half-lit by the headlights. He didn’t rush. He didn’t need to.

“Run all you want, Kanak,” he called out, his voice cutting through the noise. “Every road ends with me.”

Surendra came near her ," please Surendra just let me go, i don't want to marry you", kanak said punching on his chest with his small fist.

Not a single luck bothered Surendra, he held her hands tightly," do you want to go?".

" Yes, please Surendra let me go".

He tilted his head slightly, studying her — as if savoring the moment.

Then, unexpectedly, he said, “I’ll give you a choice.”

Kanak froze, confused. “What?”

Surendra smiled faintly, a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.

“If you want to leave… go. There’s your car.”

He pointed toward a white car parked a few meters away — her own, the one she’d arrived in earlier, standing untouched near the edge of the ground. The headlights were off, the door slightly open, as if waiting for her.

Kanak’s lips parted. She didn’t trust him — but hope flickered inside her for the first time in hours. Her voice trembled.

“You’re… letting me go?”

He shrugged, feigning indifference. “If that’s what you want. You’re free.”

The silence stretched. Even his men looked uncertain, exchanging glances but saying nothing.

Kanak stared at him, searching for deceit in his eyes — but he just stood there, motionless.

Then, taking a cautious step back, she began to move toward the car. Each step was hesitant, her breath sharp, her heart pounding like thunder.

Ten feet away.

Five.

Her hand reached for the door handle. She could almost taste freedom — the road, the air, the escape.

And then—

BOOM!

The ground shook beneath her feet. A blinding flash of fire erupted as the car exploded, the force throwing Kanak backward into the dirt. The blast ripped through the silence, flames devouring the vehicle in seconds. The smell of smoke and burning metal filled the air.

Kanak coughed, gasping for breath, her ears ringing. The world spun. Through the smoke, she saw Surendra standing exactly where he had been — untouched, unflinching.

He took a few slow steps toward her, the orange glow of the flames flickering across his face. His smile was cold, cruel, and deliberate.

“I told you, Kanak,” he said quietly. “No one leaves me.”

Kanak’s eyes filled — of shock, of rage, of heartbreak.

“You’re a monster,” she whispered.

Surendra crouched down beside her, his voice barely above the crackle of fire.

“No, Kanak,” he said, his tone almost tender. “I’m just a man who doesn’t like being left behind.”

He hugged back from bach side making her flinch, "if the drama is over then let's go and get married".

Kanak jerked him from backside, but Surendra took her in his arms.

Kanak struggling to get out of his, fighting every second,"Surendra, leave me "

Her words her not audible to him.

He made her stand near his car caging her between him and car," Shhh jaana, aese jaane ki baat nhi karte, abhi sirf shadi ki baat karte hai".

" Mujhe tumse shadi nhi karni"

" Shadi karo mujhse,me yeh sab rok dunga or thik kar dunga" Surendra roared.

"Nahi , mein tumhare aage haath jodti hu , please aesa mat karo Surendra ", kanak joined her hands.

" Thik hai, lekin kanak , abhi abhi prachi se apni exams di haina, jisse clear karte hi vo final me poch jaegi or fir interview and then IAS officer".

Kanak stare at him with the blank eyes.

" Kya ho agar prachi ki answer sheets hi aage na jae checking ke liye to—",

" Tum aesa nhi kar sakte, Surendra ".

" Paisa hai to sab hai kanak "

"Chalo yeh chodo, tejeshvi ne abhi hi cabin crew ke liye interview diya haina, jisme uske select hone ke chances bahut hai, kya hi agar vo select hi na ho to —".

" Tum bahut hi ghatiya insaan ho Surendra, me tumhe kabhi maaf nhi karungi ", kanak said.

" Or haa ,sapna ki company me fashion show haina, jisme sapna ki designed dresses ko famous hone ka or sapna ko grow karne ka bahut acha chance milega right, but what if I cancel her designs, as you I'm the chief guest of that fashion show ".

Surendra used all his tricks to blackmail her and make her weak, he very well know it will not be easy for him to marry kanak.

" You can't do this to me " her voice very low , as the betrayal today she was facing was making her weak and weak.

" Yes, I can do it, how sad it would be looking at your friends crying because their dreams were crushed", Surendra's words only fuel hatred for him in Kanak's heart.

" Tum pagal ho gaye ho, I'm not going to do anything against my will", kanak screamed at him.

Surendra took out gun and placed on her forehead," shoot me", kanak said.

" Ohoo, it's not for you my breath", Surendra pointed that gun towards his head.

" You can't do that Surendra, are you mad?", kanak looked at him in disbelief.

" Don't worry jaana, I will neither kill myself nor you, but yes I will kill someone, so that you can marry me", Surendra said like psycho.

Surendra shooted at one of his guard's shoulder.

"Nahii", kanak shouted.

He again shooted at other men in his leg," no, Surendra please stop" kanak sat down on the ground while pleading him.

" Mat karo yeh sab, mujhe nhi karni tumse shadi , kanak begged him.

" Mujhse shadi karo, varna yaha khade har insaan ko maar dunga, or inke khoon se tumhari maang bharunga", Surendra shouted on her making her flinch.

He took kanak in his shoulders like a sack, kanak tried to free herself but his hold became more fighter. Kanak got on his back but it did not effect him.

The guards whom Surendra shooted were alright, as it was there plan , they all wear bulletproof jackets to protect themselves.

Guyss finally they are getting married....
